LIFE in PAIN

Within the last few years I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia due to multiple random pain instances. I was also diagnosed with costochondritis within about a year of the first diagnosis. Living with pain that is very random/sporadic is very difficult and causes much anxiety and stress. I was forced to take a leave from work and eventually returned, but on an accommodation status which has severely impacted me financially. In my opinion, there is not enough research, education or resources available to properly diagnose or manage pain issues. Healthcare providers are too quick to diagnose, they seem to choose what's easiest or most common to put a name to your issue and provide medications for it, and in my opinion, that's how we ended up with the current opioid crisis. I believe that individuals living with pain should always get a second opinion before deciding on a treatment plan. I am also interested in having a good healthcare team that supports my decisions about my own treatment plan, and valuing a patient's overall opinion. There should be specialized healthcare teams, clinics and support groups and increased educational materials accessible for those living with pain. Overall, living with pain has changed my life considerably in all aspects. I hope one day soon not to live LIFE in PAIN. I encourage everyone with this same life struggle to start researching, promoting, educating, standing up for your rights and your opinions, finding the best healthcare teams, assisting in developing support systems and being proactive for a better quality of life for everyone.
